The role:

In this role, you will ensure daily contract compliance on all construction projects which includes coordinating administrative functions of the office and field construction personnel, performing field engineering and preparing contract change orders. You will also support project development by participating in scoping and project development teams and other work assignments.

A day in the life:

  • Oversee and direct design staff in the preparation of construction projects including geometric design of intersections, detours, accesses, stockpiles and roadway alignments.

  • Coordinate and prepare construction details such as drainage design adjustments, structure layout and component elevations, sign, signal and illumination layout.

  • Direct the work of field survey and inspection personnel on construction projects, advise on the details of work and design to ensure conformance with policies and procedures.

  • Monitor project safety procedures and methods.

  • Ensure that all required tests are performed and documented and send the results to the resident engineer and contractor.

  • Interpret plans and specifications on contract projects, identify the scope and complexity of a project and assign segments of that project effectively.

  • Assist and work closely with contractors, the public, other departments within the agency, other governmental agencies and private entities.

  • Some hybrid remote work options available! Work may require travel and is performed in an office environment and in the field around traffic and construction equipment during the day and night.

What we need:


Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.


Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Education, experience and training directly related to highway construction inspection.

  • Experience reading, reviewing and interpreting plans and specifications for construction projects.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and proactively as a team member and skills in conflict management and resolution.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and workload often under deadlines and competing priorities.
