Brief Description

  • We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide consulting services requiring electrical engineering expertise for insurance, legal, industrial and other clients.
  • The candidate will assess and determine the cause and origin of electrical failures and damages, as well as provide oral and written reports of findings and when needed, provide expert testimony.
  • The candidate may be responsible for project management and technical oversight of multiple projects. Additionally, the candidate will evaluate and review design and field engineering changes, ensure work quality and adherence to specifications, and perform related duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions 

  • Perform forensic assignments within the field of electrical engineering based upon a scope of work and budget prepared by the consultant and agreed upon by the client in advance of performing the work.
  • Field Investigations: Study and determine the cause and origin of electrical defects and/or damage.
  • Support fire investigation experts to determine electrical causes.
  • Produce written forensic reports of findings detailing the cause and origin of electrical defects and/or damage.
  • Manage multiple projects. Work in conjunction with other team members to produce client reports in a timely manner.
  • Use appropriate equations, applications, and figures to ensure proper cause-and-origin analyses. Must be proficient in using electrical and equipment testing applications, drafting and design software, land surveying techniques, and the metric system, as well as other related tools and programs.
  • Follows land use laws and regulations and ensures compliance with electrical code regulations and standards.
  • Assists with junior-level engineer mentoring/integration program.
  • Ability to initiate, develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships. 
  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years’ experience
  • California PE license required
  • Independent judgment; strong analytical skills and excellent oral and written communication skills are requirements in this position.

  • Required Skills and Abilities

     

    • Must have high level of analytical skills. Work requires continual attention to detail with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Must be able to interact and communicate with clients at all levels (e.g. internal and external).
    • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including but not limited to, Microsoft Office Applications and computer assisted engineering and design software.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical reports or journals, financial reports and legal documents.
    • Ability to clearly and coherently write scopes-of-work, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, general correspondence, and other technical documents.
    • Ability to respond to inquiries from internal and external clients.
    • Capable of effectively presenting information to top management, clients, public groups and/or boards of directors

     

    Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

    Physical Demands - Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside field locations (i.e. Client’s office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to walk through fire-damaged properties (i.e. commercial and residential) for full and proper assessment of electrical-related damage. Employee is also required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee will be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.                                                                                   

    Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch.   There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.

    Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% travel.  Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
