Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Geotechnical Office is currently seeking a Field Exploration Manager in Tumwater, WA. This position provides strategic and tactical management of the Field Exploration Unit to provide subsurface geotechnical field exploration services statewide. This position directs the execution of comprehensive field exploration plans used by foundation engineers and engineering geologists for geotechnical design of structures, walls, landslide mitigations, cuts in rock and soil, and embankments. in support of customers in the Bridge and Structures Office, Regions, Washington State Ferries, Facilities, and the Construction Office. This position ensures the geotechnical field exploration services provided by the Unit are done efficiently and consistently and meet or exceed acceptable standards of quality. This position develops or implements geotechnical field exploration and staff policies; provides long-range planning regarding workforce needs, equipment needs, implementation of new technology, and services provided by the Field Exploration Unit. This position also coordinates with outside agencies and private citizens to address access issues and environmental compliance. This position is also responsible to coordinate the statewide geotechnical field exploration schedule for the entire Geotechnical Office. Day-to-day project issues, activities and crew supervision is delegated by this position to subordinate multi-crew supervisors.
