Job Description and Duties

DWR’s Northern Region Office is looking for a dynamic Engineer, Water Resources (WR) with a can-do attitude to join its team of professionals dedicated to supporting programs and partners across Northern California. If you enjoy working in a technically focused hydrology and hydraulics environment, growing your engineering skills on a daily basis, and helping local communities, we may have just the job for you.  Under the direction of the Senior Engineer in the Surface Water Investigation Section of the Water Management Branch, Division of Regional Assistance (Division), Northern Region Office (NRO), the Engineer, WR, will perform duties in processing and analyzing stream flow data, training staff in the use of HYDSTRA software, and transferring this expertise to other employees. This position also provides technical assistance and services to other programs.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature.  We manage California’s water resources, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

Special Requirements

    The incumbent must possess a valid California Driver’s License and be able to travel on short notice and stay overnight, for several consecutive days, at field locations.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, tactful interaction with all levels of staff and public, good judgment, self-motivated, quality customer service, excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently yet also able to be a productive team member, have the ability to multi-task, and willingness to be flexible with assigned priorities based on operational needs. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, databases, and GIS programs, and effective presentation skills.  Ability to draft reports and memos, prepare preliminary analysis, design, and maps using HEC-RAS, CAD, and GIS software, and knowledge of surveying, hydrology, and hydraulics.
