The role:  
Join region 4 as a traffic designer! You’ll be responsible for providing a safe and efficient highway system by preparing work zone traffic control and permanent pavement markings plans, specifications and estimates for moderately complex projects. You will work under the direction and support of a registered professional engineer. In this role, you will also apply innovative traffic management and construction staging solutions in compliance with state and federal design standards for traffic management. Apply today!

A day in the life:

  • Prepare and design traffic control plans and permanent pavement marking plans for moderately complex construction projects.

  • Prepare and design traffic control staging computer models.

  • Prepare detailed engineering estimates, specifications and special provisions for projects.

  • Coordinate with the region traffic work zone engineer, traffic manager and traffic analysts to obtain mobility requirements and ensure that traffic control plans are consistent with traffic management plans.

  • Consult with and coordinate the contract plans preparation with other units and agencies.

  • Review proposed work zone designs and concepts to determine potential impacts to the travelling public.

  • Prepare traffic management plans for projects.

  • Act as a resource to construction staff on design related and other project issues subsequent to contract letting including approval of design changes, providing design data and final earthwork quantities.

  • Work is performed both indoors in an office and occasionally outdoors for field scoping and inspection trips.

  • Some travel throughout the region may be required and may involve working outdoors in inclement weather and in heavy traffic conditions.

What we need:

  • Five years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments.

OR

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying or transportation-related engineering and two years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Experience with computer aided drafting and design such as Microstation and InRoads is preferred.

  • Experience designing and implementing temporary traffic control, signing and pavement marking design.

  • Experience preparing construction specifications and estimates.

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project team environments.

  • Field construction experience related to the transportation industry or something similar.

  • Engineer Intern (EI) certification.
