The focus of the Thermal/Dynamics Analyst is to model and analyze complex camera system hardware, identifying and helping to solve design challenges associated with the harsh environments of launch and operation in interplanetary space and during encounters with celestial bodies for both robotic and human spaceflight.

Candidates specializing in either structures/dynamics or thermal analysis and design will also be considered.

Essential Functions
  • Build mechanical finite element models and use to analyze against mission environmental requirements, including quasi-static loads, random vibration, and shock
  • Design and execute tests as required to correlate/validate model parameters
  • Perform analysis required to support force-limited random vibration tests
  • Design dynamics test fixtures and coordinate as needed with outside test facilities
  • Operate in-house vibration and shock test systems according to test plans, responsive to customer requirements
  • Use analytical tools such as Excel, Matlab, or Python to process test data and generate test reports
  • Build detailed thermal models with sufficient resolution of applied power and temperature rise to support electronics part stress analysis and optics thermal stress/performance analysis
  • Build simplified thermal models to evaluate spacecraft thermal accommodations with both passive and active thermal control methods
  • Analyze and evaluate complex mechanical structures and polymerics bonds
  • Leads and/or participates in preliminary and critical design reviews
