Job Description:

AES Clean Energy is seeking an energy storage Senior Development Manager for US East Coast. This role will be responsible for early-stage development and origination of new standalone battery energy storage projects in the target region with third party customers. The role will involve coordination of project development activities, formulation of commercial offers, customer & related stakeholder management, and requires a deep understanding of energy markets, transmission and distribution network constraints, and experience with siting, permitting, and interconnecting renewable energy/ energy storage projects. 

 

This position will be remote with Virginia and New York as preferred locations. The ideal candidate will be able to travel 20-40%.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Project Development: originate and develop utility scale energy storage opportunities

  • Identify development prospects including market assessment

  • Secure site control for development prospects, including negotiating leases, easements, and agreements with landowners

  • Support permit team in obtaining certain local, state, and/or federal permits

  • Coordinate with interconnection team and manage interconnection related activities

  • Develop market potential for AES and energy storage

 

Commercial: create customer offers, negotiate, and win new business

  • Develop and model offers to meet customer needs

  • Prepare bids and offers combining features and commercial terms to attract customers

  • Assist in creation or content for support materials

  • Negotiate commercial contracts

  • Interact with legal support on PPA and contract terms

 

Customer and Stakeholder Relationships: educate and develop working relationships with power system operators, utilities, industrial users, power regulators, government officials, and local stakeholders related to energy storage

  • Introduce AES & storage capabilities

  • Capture customer needs and originate commercial solutions

  • Develop market potential for AES and energy storage

  • Manage internal relationships and messages across AES teams

 

Project management: direct AES people and contractors for project development

  • Prepare and manage budget for market commercial activities

  • Manage progress, coordinate activities, and resources

  • Manage tasks according to budgets and schedules, including coordinating internal and external technical support

 

Qualifications:         

  • The preferred candidate should have a minimum of an undergraduate degree and seven+ years of experience in project development, commercial management, business development, or sales with a proven capability to understand technical products and firm understanding of energy markets.

  • Advanced degree or MBA preferred.  Work experience in the energy sector and/or within sales of new solutions a plus.

  • Solid financial modeling experience using Excel with the ability to evaluate offers for consistency with business needs

  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills required.  The candidate should be capable of creating compelling new offers, respond to bids and solicitations reflecting customer needs and communicating them to audiences composed of technical, commercial, and regulatory backgrounds.

  • Possess strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Demonstrated business judgment and individual initiative. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work dynamically and cross functionally within teams spanning both the regional organization and the energy storage team.

  • Ability to work remotely, utilizing technology to stay connected to colleagues in other locations.

  • Ability to travel 20-40%
