Position will be responsible for developing and promoting company knowledge and expertise related to Thermodynamic applications of energy-efficient products and systems that are used in the HVAC, Commercial Refrigeration and Retail markets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Acts as a liaison with the Global R&D group to create and lead a domestic Center of Competence for HVAC&R Applications, and High Efficiency Solutions and Products.
- Leads and gives direction on the theory and application of new HVAC&R products including but not limited to; electronic expansion valves, inverters/drives, compressors and control systems.
- Coaches internal and external customers with technical know-how and expertise on how CAREL High Efficiency Solutions and Products improve system performance.
- Provide insight and direction on thermodynamics and compressor envelope management.
- Directs and coordinates HVAC&R Application Laboratory activities for testing and operating systems, products, and components.
- Compares competitive technologies through research and in-house testing to help support medium to long term opportunities while also identifying future product gaps and needs.
- Actively represents and promotes the company and new solutions in relevant industry and government organizations (ASHRAE, NSF, NREL, EPA, DOE, etc.).
- Create technical papers and case studies.
- Identifies and tracks technological trends in company's industry to help develop product definitions.
- Provides input for overall product strategy, development, and manufacturing coordination for emerging products.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree with 2-3 years HVAC/R experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The candidate must be fluent in English. Good verbal and written language communications skills. Good technical writing ability.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Engineering level, or equivalent experience
REASONING ABILITY
High degree of technical aptitude. Engineering problem solving.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a basic knowledge of CAD systems, Office products, and data acquisition systems.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep theoretical and working knowledge of thermodynamic cycles, refrigeration systems, circuits, and components.
- Experience with HVAC&R systems and equipment; any laboratory work is optional
- Any knowledge of compressor development, testing, and operating envelopes is optional.
- Any knowledge if HVAC&R control systems and/or industrial PLCs is optional.
- Any experience with HVAC&R equipment testing and installation is optional.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
HVAC/R, or ASHRAE certifications / registrations a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to reasonably lift and move components up to 50 pounds in weight. Full mobility to use ladders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office space will be provided.
This position will involve working in a laboratory or field site as required.
TRAVEL
30% travel ability domestically. Occasional international travel may be required.
