The role:  
 
As the district 10 manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing operational activities that maintain Oregon’s highways, bridges, pathway systems and facilities. A day in the life:
 
  • Manage the maintenance and operational activities associated with maintaining the state highways, bridges, pathway systems and related facilities within the district.
  • Provide leadership and management of personnel, hiring, evaluating and training employees.
  • Work closely with adjacent districts, local agencies, federal agencies, other state agencies and confederated tribes of warm springs (CTWS).
  • Answer public requests and inquiries and frequently meet with individuals and public groups.
  • Identify, select and advise on specific projects or overall programs relating to construction, maintenance and operation of ODOT’s facilities in the district.
  • Manage the development and delivery of regional maintenance projects.
  • Prepare winter maintenance operation plans to provide maximum safety to the public and employees.
  • Collaborate, manage and oversee equipment and fleet for the district.
  • Prepare district and regional maintenance budgets, concerning labor, equipment and materials.
  • Authorize and monitor expenditures within the district.
  • Investigate transportation system problems (including crashes, major incidents and other emergencies) and gather input and evaluate situations to select the appropriate response.
  • Respond to emergency situations on the transportation system and investigate serious vehicle crashes.
  • On call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, including holidays and requires travel, some overnight stays and driving in all weather conditions.

What we need:
Four (4) years of management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for each of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.
 
OR
 
Three (3) years of management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for each of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation;
 
AND
 
45-48 quarter hours (30-32 semester hours) of graduate level coursework in management.

Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Understanding of program and project management principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of how various transportation systems work including building, engineering, operations and equipment.
