Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Projects, the Project Engineer is responsible for the effective implementation of capital projects.  This includes ensuring the work is carried out safely, on schedule, within budget, and is technically sound and of the required quality.  The Project Engineer is responsible for managing projects from initial project development through project execution and turnover/startup.  The Project Engineer will lead the project team, which is made up of representatives from the different groups at the site.  These people will not formally report to the project engineer.  Peer-to-peer leadership is required to manage the team.

The Project Engineer may develop projects of various disciplines; however, this position will have a larger emphasis on mechanical type projects.

This position is located in Redwater, Alberta, Canada and is not available for remote work.

What you will do:

  • Ensure all projects are being completed using Nutrien project management policies, procedures and systems outlined for project management group
  • Make recommendations and be involved with important decision making on technical and complex aspects of projects, able to put together concepts of implementation and cost estimates
  • Manage project costs on and ongoing basis (i.e., cost control, scope control, schedule control and risk control.
  • Interface with key department personnel to garner all appropriate approvals for effective project implementation
  • Manage all required project documentation (AFE’s, reporting, technical)

What you will bring:

  • Maintenance Engineer (preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Engineer with Project experience
  • Ability to coordinate a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to solve business case, scoping, planning and project execution problems
  • Ability to multitask and handle a large and varied workload
  • In-depth knowledge of Project Management principles
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and qualities to manage projects
  • Ability to develop working knowledge of project software (SAP, PPM, Primavera)
  • Proficient in using software tools including Microsoft Office
  • Must be motivated and able to work in a team environment, exhibit strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, and have sound written and verbal communication skills.
