Reporting to the Process Control Team Lead, the Process Control Engineer is responsible for the development, maintenance and support of process control and information applications at the Redwater facility.

This position is located in (Redwater, Alberta, Canada) and is not available for remote work.

What you will do:

  • Works with Operations and Technical groups to identify and champion improvement opportunities to improve and sustain operations and profitability, and provides subsequent development and implementation of effective solutions
  • Implements DCS and application changes and new configuration as required by projects and MOC’s
  • Maintains the control database, regulatory, supervisory, and advanced applications, and the HMI to ensure operation and integrity of the control and information applications
  • Provides technical assistance and process control expertise, including advanced problem-solving techniques, for the analysis/investigation of abnormal operating situations and day-to-day application performance issues, and for their subsequent correction
  • Provides technical assistance and process control expertise for design and implementation of DCS and control configurations of capital projects and MOC’s
  • Maintains the alarm management database. Facilitate alarm rationalizations, initiate alarm changes and bad actor’s resolution
  • Provides user training and assistance to Operators, Maintenance and Technical personnel to ensure safe and competent use of the DCS and Information systems
  • Utilizes broad engineering and analytical skills to ensure efficient maintenance and process control support. At times may have to make emergency repair or other decisions to minimize system downtime or abnormal operation and their related costs
  • Support operations during commissioning activities, turnarounds, and startup of the units
  • Assists with engineering review and authentication of process control applications developed by others and mentoring to improve the expertise of process control engineers

What you will bring:

  • BSc. or M.Sc. Degree in Chemical Engineering with specialization in Process Control
  • Registered, or immediately eligible to be, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Sound technical expertise in process control engineering, process dynamics/modeling, and regulatory, supervisory and advanced/model-based control
  • Ability to work alone and in a team. Prioritize, risk-assess on multiple concurrent tasks, and meet department goals/critical timelines demonstrating agility to provide technical support with quality work
  • Hands on experience on TDC3000 and Experion Honeywell is an asset
  • Experience with alarm management and control performance monitoring is an asset
  • Expertise in dynamic simulation as a process operations training tool is an asset
