The Environmental Engineer will report to the Safety, Security, Health, and Environmental (SSHE) Manager

This position is located in Geismar, LA, U.S.A. and is not available for remote work. Travel could be 20%.

What you will do:

  • General day to day compliance with Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Solid Waste (SW) regulatory compliance
  • Project permitting – may include preparation of CAA, CWA, SW, Army Corps of Engineers, etc., permit applications
  • Project/Process environmental performance enhancement and problem solving
  • Environmental Project Management (e.g., GHG Abatement, etc.)
  • Continuous emission monitoring (CEM) system (Air and Water) day to day compliance
  • Complete routine reports (NPDES DMR Reports, TRI , EPCRA/TSCA, and waste reports)
  • Complete monthly Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) and Stormwater inspections
  • Represent Nutrien during State and federal inspections
  • Maintenance and update of Regulatory Plans (SPCC, SWP3, RMP, Contingency Plan)
  • Legacy site remediation projects
  • Release reporting and calculations
  • Assist with the completion of the annual air permit reports
  • Knowledge/become knowledgeable on federal and state environmental regulations for air, wastes (Includes regulated solid, hazardous, universal, and naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM)) , and water
  • Routine OSHA PSM/EPA RMP Compliance
  • Work w/ Operations Staff on day to day compliance, training, presentations, etc.
  • Serve as a back up to the Sr. Environmental Superintendent position

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or equivalent

  • 0-5 plus years plant experience 

  • Experience with environmental regulations is preferred
  • Diverse background in safety, environmental and process safety management is preferred
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Engagement and Accountability
  • Knowledge on federal and state environmental regulations for air, water, and wastes (includes regulated solid, hazardous, universal, and naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) is preferred
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) as issued by TSA (Transportation Security Administration)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company standards and its insurers
  • Must be able to work extended hours and days without time off as necessary
