Job Description:

The City of Chesapeake’s Department of Public Works is seeking an Engineer II to perform engineering design and review of municipal drainage and stormwater infrastructure improvement projects within our Stormwater Engineering Section. The position is responsible for researching and analyzing engineering data, reviewing and designing plans, approving and maintaining related engineering information, and providing assistance with project inquiries and concerns.

Essential Functions
  • Prepares and reviews drainage studies/reports, construction plans, specifications and cost estimates for drainage and stormwater infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Completes engineering functions such as inspecting project sites, managing project progress, and attending progress meetings.
  • Prepares, approves, evaluates, and maintains related engineering reports and other information such as project work orders, invoices, proposals, grant applications, and/or permits.
  • Participates in the coordination of project implementation by interacting with the various parties involved. Ensures compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Conducts limited Site Plan and/or SWMM model reviews on new development and redevelopment to support various departments.
  • Investigates and responds to inquiries and concerns for contractors, staff, the general public, and other organizational agencies.
  • Provides technical support to in-house Operational, Contractual Services, and Environmental staff.
  • Participates in the rain assessment procedure to document flooding during certain rain events.
  • Attends or conducts staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and classes, seminars, or conferences to improve professional skills.
