The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 3 to lead and provide guidance to the Assistant Bridge Inspector and Transportation Technician 3. This position is responsible for bridge inspections, contract plan reviews, utility plans, and reviews, to help provide a safe, reliable, cost-effective transportation system to the public. 
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Transportation Engineer 3 will:

  • Serve as lead engineering representative for Bridge Maintenance Region Wide. 
  • Complete and submit routine inspections, bridge repair and bridge damage reports. 
  • Update bridge inventory, photo log, inspection reports, and repair report databases. 
  • Make recommendations for repairs to maintenance crews and performs follow up inspections of completed work. 
  • Collect and submit data for structures with deficiencies.
  • Provide details, drawings, calculations, and other relative information towards the repair and preservation of the region’s bridges. 

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Two (2) years of experience in Bridge Maintenance, AND
  • Three (3) years of experience in Bridge Inspection, Engineering, or combination thereof.

 

In addition to:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Washington Driver License.
  • Successful completion of Bridge Condition Inspection Training (BCIT) Fundamentals Course.
  • Successful completion of Plans Reading Course.
  • Proficient in PC Microsoft applications, Databases, and other computer software.
  • Surveying Skills, Capable of Professional Engineering tasks. 
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, Ubit, snorkel lifts.  
  • Successful completion of NHI – FHWA Bridge Condition Inspection Course within one (1) year. 

 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: 

  • Successful completion of FEMA ICS Courses.
  • Successful completion of NHI – FHWA Tunnel Inspection Course. 
  • Class A CDL, N endorsement and without air brake restriction. 

 

Important Notes 

  • This position is not eligible for remote work.
  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. An additional general wage increase of 3.25% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2022.
  • By issuance of proclamation, the Governor of Washington State mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Compliance with this mandate is a condition of employment with WSDOT.
