Outokumpu Stainless is looking for a "Environmental Engineer " to join our  Enviromental Health and Security  team in Calvert, Alabama

This position is responsible for driving sustainability within the organization, including education and new projects.  Maintain site compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

Individual Accountabilities:
Ensure compliance with permits and regulations as it pertains to all pollution control equipment such as:
  • Acid scrubbers of the cold mill
  • Reheat furnace stacks
  • Passive annealing furnaces
  • Cooling towers
  • Coal Rolling Workshop mist eliminators
  • Melt shop baghouses (5 total)
  • Work closely with leaders in implementing environmental programs, which include training, documentation, sampling, inspections, and reports
  • Responsible to remove or recycle hazardous waste and industrial waste
  • Monitor parameters of water discharged from the plant to the environment
  • Monitor parameters for SID permit for wastewater coming from AM/NS
  • Coordinate petroleum and chemical spill remediation
  • Complete site inspections and audits providing recommendations and ensuring follow-up on corrective actions
  • Prepare and submit facility environmental reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Perform storm water inspections and/or correct deficiencies
  • Conduct hazardous material storage inspections
  • Assess the environmental risk of activities and advise the team of risk management strategies.
  • Working with operations and maintenance groups to evaluate, develop and recommend alternative solutions for compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Assist with maintaining ISO-14001 certification and auditing
  • Other related tasks as needed
Qualifications: 
  • Four-year undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) and some specialization in the relevant fields, preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Regulatory Field, preferably in the steel industry.
  • Extensive experience in the use of software applications such as Excel, Word, MS Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Experience using knowledge of US state and federal environmental regulations
  • Experience and knowledge of US EPA air regulations
  • Experience engaging with Regulatory Agencies for permit application
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of year
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. individually
  • Exposure to consistent noise.
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, varying temperatures, vibrations, dust and asphalt.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, talk and listen for long periods of time.
  • Frequently use hands and fingers, to handle, feel and operate, objects, tools and controls.
  • Frequently reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to walk long distances, sometimes over uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb several flights of stairs
  • Ability to work in a safety sensitive environment
