Job Description:

Outokumpu Stainless is looking for a "Combustion Technician"  to join our Maintenance  team in Calvert , Alabama.
 
This position will assist in maintaining (with emphasis on combustion and refractory) the slab temperature holding furnaces, coil annealing furnaces, Hot Annealing Pickle Line, annealing furnace, Cold Annealing Pickle Line,  annealing furnace, Melt Shop heaters and burners and boilers with a prioritization of safety, compliance, quality, profit, communication, development, and presentation.

Main Responsibilities for the role:
  • Responsibility Scope:  This position is responsible of but not limited to the preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting, including the combustion fuel / air ratio controls, refractory repair, and improvement projects associated with: Slab temperature holding furnaces at the AMNS Steel slab yard, coil annealing furnaces at the connection bay, HAPL annealing furnace in the Cold Roll Works,  annealing furnace in the CRW, Boilers in the CRW courtyard, and Ladle, vessel and tundish heaters in the Melt Shop.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of safety.
  • Develop and maintain compliance associated with all laws including but not limited to Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental.
Management Scope:  This position will not be responsible for managing other employees but, will be required to supervise contractors used during special circumstances such as shutdowns, projects, or maintenance. 

Geographical Scope:  This position requires about 20% desk work and about 80% field work.

Qualifications:
  • 3 or more years of electrical fault finding in an industrial environment required
  • Associates degree in Electrical Technology or higher preferred
  • 3 or more years of controls and instrumentation; preferred
  • Combustion systems and fault finding preferred
  • Knowledge of flow controls systems such as valves and flow meters preferred
  • Travel of approximately 10%; may include domestic and international travel
 Physical Requirements
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. individually
  • Exposure to consistent noise.
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, varying temperatures, vibrations, dust and asphalt.
  • Able to withstand high temperatures of up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius) for 30 minutes at a time
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, talk and listen for long periods of time.
  • Frequently use hands and fingers, to handle, feel and operate, objects, tools and controls.
  • Frequently reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to walk long distances, sometimes over uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb several flights of stairs and work at heights of 175 feet
  • Ability to work in a safety sensitive environment.
