Job Description:

Reporting under the college’s Office of College Computing, the (Computer Systems Administrator I) position is responsible for developing, managing, maintaining and enhancing the design, architecture and function of departmental computing technologies, including the following major duties: 

- Primarily supports the server and systems administration and technology needs for back-end systems within the Office of College Computing (OCC).  This includes Microsoft Active Directory, SCCM, and Software License Servers.
- Server administration includes hardware and software installs, configuration, script development and administration of Windows servers / operating systems, and Hypervisor clusters.  Also included is backup and recovery, and disaster recovery services.
- Oversees operations of the OCC college computing labs and user administration for student services.  Supervises Graduate Assistant student worker(s) for these functions.  Responsible for lab image creation and deployments. 
- Troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves problems associated with the system hardware, operating systems, software / applications. 
- Monitors system performance, ensures compliance with security standards and practices to protect against system vulnerabilities, and ensures software license compliance. 
- Serves as the software license administrator for college wide software, managing various license servers.
- Serves as third level support for computer support functions for faculty and staff offices and research labs.  Platforms supported include Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile devices.
- Other duties to include IT asset management, backup support for Network Storage Administration, Student Print Services and Security Camera Systems.
- Works collaboratively within College Computing and with IT staff in academic departments to ensure that technology needs are being met in a consistent manner in support of academic teaching and research.  
- Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders, especially with faculty and students. Serves on committees and project teams.
- Maintains a flexible work schedule to support users during non-standard hours as required. 
- Perform other duties as assigned. 
- This position includes research projects handled under ITAR; which is sponsored by the United States Government and requires US citizenship or the applicant to possess a Green Card.


Minimum Qualifications 
Bachelor’s degree in a computing related field such as computer science, computer engineering, information technology, and demonstrated experience of at least two (2) years or demonstrated experience of at least five (5) years.  Experience should include administration of Windows server and desktop technologies, Active Directory, SCCM, and a high level of experience with supporting hardware and software of varying technologies, of a company, agency or institution with more than 50 employees.  

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated experience in VMWare Horizon VDI.  Previous engineering experience is a plus, such as with supporting engineering software. Must have outstanding organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines, excellent writing and speaking skills, abilities to work both independently and collegiately as the situation requires, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic and critical environment where constructive feedback is commonplace.
