The Opportunity

WSDOT’s Northwest Region (NWR) is currently seeking a self-motivated, independent worker who thrives within a dynamic team setting and takes pride in their work to serve as Plant Establishment Program Lead. This position will support WSDOT’s mission by providing expertise to meet the federal, state, and local environmental permit and policy goals of vegetated roadsides and mitigation sites. The successful candidate appointed into this position will further support WSDOT’s mission by improving environmental conditions through wise financial and adaptive resource management. Your involvement and initiative will be supporting the natural ecology of our region and the livelihood of the travelling public. With this in mind, WSDOT is searching for someone who has a passion for environmental stewardship and wants to make a truly rewarding contribution to WSDOT Northwest Region and the state of Washington.
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Plant Establishment Program Lead will:

  • Lead the NWR Plant Establishment Program to meet agency policy and permit obligations through accountable and efficient management of the Plant Establishment work. 
  • Work with NWR Principal Landscape Architect, Program Managers, and design and construction offices to fund the Plant Establishment Program. 
  • Compile biennial budgets and develop, organize, and track financial information over multiple biennia for a number of wetland, stream, and roadside sites. 
  • Work with Financial Services and Program Management to collect agreement funding and track spending in Excel and Primavera P6 software. 
  • Lead NWR Vegetation Mitigation Program and assign and manage Landscape Architecture staff to carry out restoration using vegetation mitigation funds. 
  • Coordinate staff certified arborists for hazard tree reviews throughout the region, and track and manage requests for hazard tree review completion. 

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture OR
  • Registration as a Landscape Architect

 

In addition to:

  • Current driver’s license
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Planning Specialist 3 (TPS3) or equivalent classification in a city or county agency, or equivalent experience in project management. 
  • ISA Certified Arborist Credentials or the ability to obtain Credentials within one year of hire. 
  • Knowledge and ability to perform Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) reviews for landscape architectural design, focusing on adaptive management and strategies in maintenance including access, safety, costs, and scheduling. 
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Primavera P6 or newer. 
  • Ability to traverse uneven ground and perform field investigative work outdoors and in inclement weather.  

 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Landscape Architect license
  • Pesticide Public Operator License
  • Certified Erosion and Sediment Control license
  • Irrigation design and installation experience.

  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. An additional general wage increase of 3.25% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2022.
