We offer a hybrid work environment, allowing you to work remotely 2-3 days a week and from the office 2-3 days a week.

About the Role

This is a unique position with an important history at our company, and it requires a rare combination of skills. You must be a great engineer, but this position will also demand that you communicate extremely well and clearly, understand or learn a diverse set of disciplines in our business, and be able to serve as a strong technical leader for our project teams. Strong candidates for this role are creative problem solvers and enjoy the dynamic challenges our unique project portfolios entail.

This position is both internally- and externally-facing. Internally, you will work closely with stakeholders from the Interconnection, Policy, Project Development, Finance, and Engineering teams to identify optimal Distributed Energy Resource (DER) project locations, inform regulatory policy, and provide engineering guidance for optimal project integration with the utility system. Externally, you will represent Borrego’s interests in collaborating and negotiating with utilities and other industry stakeholders, participate in multiple industry level technical working groups, and work to build industry consensus in order to enable the timely and streamlined interconnection of renewable energy to the electric grid in all of Borrego’s US markets.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Internal:
    • Evaluate and provide actionable feedback on Distribution and ISO level utility impact studies regarding accuracy, required system upgrades, project design changes and cost reasonability
    • Assist project developers in the evaluation of potential PV and energy storage sites and provide estimates for interconnection costs
    • Serve as technical lead for project- and portfolio-level utility disputes
    • Develop a strong understanding - and drive continuous improvement - of Borrego’s design philosophy, engineering standards and their financial impact to projects
    • Provide training and guidance to internal engineering and project teams
    • Participate in and lead internal process improvement initiatives
    • Organize and manage external consultants where necessary and appropriate
  • External:
    • Take on leadership roles in state and industry level technical policy working groups advocating for policies and standards that facilitate integration of renewables into the electricity system, and that continue to build Borrego’s leadership role on technical matters in our industry.

Desired Skills and Experience:

While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes. If you’re unsure of whether you meet enough of the qualifications below but believe that your experience and skill set is a good match for this position, we invite you to apply!

  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills and the ability to provide concrete examples of said skills
