AlpHa Measurement Solutions is experiencing aggressive growth through a global platform consolidation and recognizes a need to strengthen its product development capabilities to meet increased demand and support continued growth.  We have an immediate need for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our R&D team. 

AlpHa Measurement Solutions’ R&D and NPD functions are critical to our company’s success.  The team is responsible for developing and commercializing new analytical sensors and instrumentation, leading the conceptualization, research, design, prototype development, testing, and production launch, as well as supporting the product lifecycle through troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.  Our R&D and Product Development teams are currently comprised of talented individuals with advanced degrees in the fields of chemistry, electrochemistry, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. 

 

Our privately held company has over 100 years of liquid sensing experience, is growing, and currently employs 230 team members in Houston Texas and 140 in Shanghai China.  We need a savvy electrical and firmware designer who wants to be a part of a strengthening R&D team, who is self-motivated to advance the company and priority initiatives, and is capable of technical product leadership, project management, and leveraging technology throughout our business.

 

Our global headquarters is conveniently located in Houston at the southwest intersection of I-69 and Sam Houston Tollway, just north of Sugar Land. 

This individual will report directly to the Senior Electrical Design Engineer.  

Classification: Salaried, Exempt, Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and as required to maintain business momentum.

Pay Rate:  Negotiable dependent upon work experience and skill level 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Summary

The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for assisting with conceptualizing product designs, designing and developing circuit schematics, developing printed circuit board layouts, and developing required firmware.  In addition, the senior engineer will design and execute appropriate methods for the testing and validation of new designs and new products, and support customers and our Quality Control (“QC”) Department by establishing testing protocols, and by assisting in root cause analysis and general troubleshooting of products.

  • Execute electrical and firmware design for new product development projects – including research, design, prototyping, testing, and supporting market launch.
  • Work closely with other R&D functions in order to define complete product design specifications.
  • Develop appropriate testing techniques for validation of new product designs and quantification of product specifications.
  • Assist with obtaining applicable product compliance certifications.
  • Conduct troubleshooting investigations and technical support issues for new and existing products.
  • Interface on occasion with customer accounts via e-mail and telephone.
  • Conduct and evaluate appropriate research in support of new product development and product improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 5 years applicable professional experience
  • Minimum 2 years circuit schematic design and printed circuit board layout experience, Altium Designer experience is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years firmware development experience with C/C++, preferably with MSP430 and dsPIC33 platforms
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design, including low noise amplifiers, transimpedance amplifiers, and instrumental amplifiers
  • Experience with digital communication protocols such as RS232, RS485, and Modbus
  • PC Panel software design using LabVIEW is preferred
  • Must be a team player
  • Professional experience designing measurement devices is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking capabilities
  • Must be able to document work and maintain all development documentation
