The Opportunity

WSDOT’s I-405/SR 167 Program is currently seeking to fill multiple Assistant Office Engineer positions. The I-405/SR 167 program is a high visibly and complex multibillion dollar program, and in this position you will be responsible for all project documentation functions, including paper and electronic document control systems, contractor and design-builder submittals, and final payment and project records. This position ensures data and documentation are complete and accurate and uses engineering judgment to provide input to supervisor.
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Assistant Office Engineer will:

  • Review contractor’s/design-builder’s payments (cost estimates).
  • Manage Contractor’s/design-builder’s monthly invoices for compliance with contract documents and processes monthly progress reports. 
  • Process paynote information into the Construction Administration and Payment System (CAPS).
  • Compile and calculate final quantities and final estimates. 
  • Supervise all project documentation control functions and the WSDOT electronic system including hard copies.
  • Assist the managing, preparation, and processing of various construction project documentation. 
  • Assist in processing Change Orders, Request to Sublets, Affidavit of Wages Paid, Statement of Intents, Force Account, Weekly Statement of Working Days.
  • Monitor and track DBE/MSVWBE goals in the B2Gnow System. 

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer1, Technical Transportation 3, or equivalent working with document control. (College level course work in engineering or other closely related field will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis).


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: 

  • Working knowledge or WSDOT construction practices and contract administration.
  • Working knowledge of design and construction standard documentation practices.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Ability to review and audit documentation for contract compliance.
  • Ability to read project plans.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to file and organize documentation correctly. 
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, support offices, permit agencies, and the contractor’s personnel.
  • Effectively use a computer and programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, CAPS, etc.) for communication and documentation. 
  • Prioritize multiple tasks in order to successfully complete assigned duties.
  • Work in a fast-paced work environment.

  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. An additional general wage increase of 3.25% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2022.
  • By issuance of proclamation, the Governor of Washington State mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Compliance with this mandate is a condition of employment with WSDOT.
