The Opportunity

WSDOT’s I-405/SR 167 program is eager to hire an experienced business and engineering professional to serve as our next Business Manager. The I-405/SR 167 program is a high visibly and complex multibillion dollar program, and the Business Manager will support the department’s mission by ensuring highway construction projects are built in compliance with the contract documents and documented accurately in a timely manner. The successful candidate appointed into this role will manage, support, and ensure the delivery of the contract administration of multimillion dollar design-build construction contracts. What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Business Manager will:

  • Manage and assist the Design-Builder’s administration staff in the development and implementation of the project document control system, both electronic and hard copy files. 
  • Manage routine audits on the Design-Builders electronic and hard copy documentation to ensure the processes and procedure implemented conform to the Document Control Plan and contract requirements. 
  • Manage and oversee that the Design-Builder’s project files are compliant with the contract regarding subcontracting, certified payrolls, use of apprentices, DBE utilization and other administrative requirements. 
  • Manage quality documentation and train staff for project compliance. 
  • Manage the development of project funding, expenditure, and forecast oversight for the I-405/SR-167 construction projects. 
  • Provide reports and project information to the project team for budget monitoring and program management, expenditures, work order authorizations and change control processes. 
  • Manage and coordinate fiscal and biennial closeout for the project and work with the Project Engineer to develop and capture risk related items and cash flow forecasts. 

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Two (2) years of experience in construction administration of design-build projects. OR
  • One (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 3 or equivalent classification such as Bridge Engineer 3 or Transportation Planning Specialist 3. 

 

In addition to:

  • Current driver’s license
  • Knowledge of technical engineering practices and departmental policies, procedures, and standards. 

 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of program management, project control, and reporting functions. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering elements as they relate to preliminary engineering, right of way, and construction phases. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
