JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Tribal Engineer II                                DEPARTMENT: DCD
CLASSIFICATION: Salary                                      REPORTS TO: Director

JOB SUMMARY:
The Tribal Engineer II assists in construction related design and engineering work under the
direct supervision of the Tribal Engineer.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Civil Engineering
Provide feasibility and pre‐design studies;
Prepare engineering drawings (CAD), calculations, cost estimates and specifications for Tribal
construction projects.
Construction Contract Management
Assist with management of projects through construction phase including preparation of
change orders, review submittals;
Provide inspection services;
Prepare inspection reports and other construction documentation related to capital
improvement projects;
Assure construction occurs in conformance with project plans and specifications.
Technical Assistance
Provide technical assistance to Tribal facilities staff in support of the day to day operation of
the Tribal infrastructure.
Grant Management
Assist with grant reporting and compliance for certain projects.
Other work as assigned by Tribal Engineer

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of standard engineering principles as applied to civil projects;
Knowledge of engineering design, surveying, analysis, construction and construction inspection;
Knowledge of cartography, GIS architectural & mechanical projects, and planning;
Knowledge of Tribal Sovereignty;
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships within the Tribal environment;
Possess strong organizational skills and strong problem‐solving skills;
Ability to learn rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and terminology used in Tribal
government environment.
Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure: manage simultaneous tasks and projects and
meet deadlines;
Proficient in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel and Outlook.;
Proficient with AUTO‐CAD, and various engineering application programs;
Proficient with storm water modeling and facility design and low impact design methods.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess five years or more of experience in the civil engineering field with progressively more
responsibility;
Proven civil design and construction experience including water systems, wastewater systems,
site development, and transportation and storm water facilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience;
Possess current registration as an Engineer in Training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
Work with governmental and private agencies including committee’s or commissions,
consultants, engineers, architects, contractors, vendors and the general public. Work supporting
other departments within Tribal government. Interact with and support Tribal membership and
their projects.

JOB CONDITIONS:
Work in an office setting and in the field at locations such as construction sites.
State and Tribal Background check required
Valid WA State Driver’s License required
