Job Description:

What you will do:

  • Works daily with team members under the direction of the Engineering Manager to accomplish plant objectives in the following priority areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, Production, Efficiency, Cost Reduction and Innovation
  • Acts as process engineering SME mentoring and reviewing work from junior process engineers as needed
  • Performs and/or initiates effective and timely engineering and technical studies to troubleshoot known plant problems, predict impending problems and to optimize plant operations in the above priority areas
  • Performs and/or contributes to thorough process reviews, Hazard and Operability Studies (Hazops) and “What If” analyses on current operations and on proposed changes to plant equipment, processes and systems via the plant Process Safety Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Performs and/or contributes to Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) and incident investigations and completes assigned action items on schedule
  • Promotes and contributes to successful implementation of projects by providing accurate, timely and thorough design input / design review and by facilitating close coordination and communications with area personnel
  • Promotes and contributes to site Manufacturing Excellence and Operations Driven Reliability (ODR) processes
  • Identifies and facilitates implementation of production, reliability, efficiency and cost improvement opportunities
  • Routinely tracks and reports compressor / turbine/ pump/ exchanger efficiencies, pressure drop surveys, catalyst evaluations, lost tons, and reliabilities issues.
  • Interacts daily with operators and shift supervisors to learn and share knowledge of the plant operations and to meld "reality' with "theoretical".
  • Ensures that Process Flow Diagrams (PFD's), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P & ID's), Steam Balances and Standard Operating Procedures are complete and up-to-date.
  • Performs monthly accounting closing activities as requested.
  • Researches and evaluates industry technology advancements, other plant experiences and innovative ideas. Develops and maintains networks with other Nutrien and Nitrogen industry plants
  • Performs special studies / projects as directed by the Engineering Manager
  • Ensures proper loading of vessels during catalyst, desiccant, packing and gauze changes
  • Acts as the project engineer for capital projects which includes the responsibility for coordinating the design team to achieve overall design accuracy for all engineering disciplines associated with the project
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will bring:

  • BS Degree in Chemical engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 7+ years engineering experience in the chemical process industry
  • Strong and proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Engineering software (HYSIS)
  • Demonstrated experience with process control and implementing advanced process control strategies is a plus
  • Nitrogen based fertilizer industry experience is a plus
  • Must possess valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record that meets company standards
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card
  • Effectively communicate, orally (face to face and by telephone) and in writing, in English with coworkers, contractors, government officials and Senior Management
  • Must be able to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems
  • Able to organize and prioritize multiple projects and makes adjustments quickly as needed
  • Able to analyze financial and cost data and develop conclusions and recommendations
  • Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with other people
  • Must possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with both company and contract employees
  • Must be goal orientated, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing to work in protected areas at heights greater than six (6) feet above ground
  • Must be able to hear and smell for deficiencies or hazards
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
  • Must be willing to occasionally work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required
  • Must be available to respond to call-out as assigned
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures
  • Must be able to withstand moderate noise levels.
