Electrical Engineer

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the Job

· Design, analyze and test analog and digital circuitry to support microwave communications electronics

· Typical circuit designs tasks include, but are not limited to:

- Opamp-based sampling and feedback circuitry

- Linear and switching voltage regulators (low voltage)

- Precision voltage references

- Serial data communications

- Current sensing and limiting circuits, hot-swap circuitry

- PLLs (Non-Microwave) and low frequency clocks

· Analyze design requirements and select suitable electronic components

· Perform circuit analysis - both by direct calculation and by use of SPICE simulation tools

· Document designs by developing schematics, block diagrams, and analysis documents

· Review and advise on PCB layouts developed by drafting department to engineering specs

· Contribute to the technical planning, scheduling, and successful execution of small design projects

· Communicate with other design team about requirements, design rationale, analysis of designs, and any issues clearly and openly

· Have constant interactions and make design trade-offs with systems engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering and manufacturing support engineering

· Support other engineering functions as needed in the design process

· Participate in the improvement of the organizational processes and documentation

· Lead the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application

· Exercises latitude and self-direction in determining technical objectives of assignments

Minimally Required Skills

· Analog circuit design techniques

· Familiarity with basic analog and analog/digital control circuits

· Opamp sampling and feedback

· Linear and switching voltage regulators

· Low-frequency filtering and signal conditioning

· A/D and D/A converters

· Serial communications circuits

· Grounding and isolation

· Precision voltage references

· Basic knowledge of Schematic Capture & PCB Layout tools

· Familiarity with basic electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc)

· Underlying background knowledge of the electronics manufacturing process

· Hardware debugging/troubleshooting skills

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and the use of Sharepoint

· Good communication skills and a willingness to share knowledge

· Ability to multi-task

Beyond the basic required skills, additional consideration will be given to applicants who have experience in the following specialty areas:

· RF and Microwave electronics devices and circuits

· Embedded control hardware design with microcontrollers, basic embedded code

· Basic Python Scripting (including data collection and processing)

· Automation of electronic test equipment (GPIB, LXI, etc.)

· CAN communications protocol

· Experience with microwave test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, PNA, etc.)

· MTBF analysis of electronics products

· Familiarity with regulatory compliance for electronic products (e.g. FCC, CE certification, etc.)

· RF or Microwave design tools (e.g, Genesys, AWR MWO, Ansys tool suites)

· Experience with a community documentation paradigm (i.e. Wiki, etc.)

· Project management tools such as Microsoft Project

· Experience in the preparation of technical documents for potential major program proposals

Minimum job requirements:

· BS in Electrical engineering, Computer engineering or Computer Science. Master’s Preferred
· Five years of related work experience
· Mid-Career to Senior level work experience.

Working Conditions

· Primarily in office setting. Sitting & standing
