Job Description:

Job Purpose:
Responsible for providing technical assistance to field personnel and administer technology implementation in the substation and distribution systems.  The Distribution Engineer is also responsible for the analysis and function of engineering applications such as SCADA, AMI, and EA programs that integrate with GIS and OMS systems. 
 
Duties:
  • Prepare substation feeder analysis showing all critical attributes of the feeder including circuit loading, voltage drop, device coordination, and fault currents using Milsoft engineering analysis software.
  • Administer the Aclara Automated Meter Infrastructure for the reading of meters, control of disconnect collars, and data analysis.
  • Administer and maintain all substation controls, reclosers, breakers, and voltage regulators with Schweitzer (SEL) relays and associated software.
  • Administer Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for the monitoring and control of substation equipment and the collection of historical data and events, currently the Survalent.
  • Power quality analysis, instrumentation, and monitoring of electric service, including the interpretation of harmonic and meter data.
  • Prepare reports to management on operations and interpret technical data relative to the electric distribution system.
  • Evaluates and prepares construction standards following the RUS format and RUS approved materials.
  • Functions as a project manager and directs appropriate personnel as required to implement engineering systems.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for electric system construction projects and work plan
  • Perform all other job-related duties assigned by management.
 
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 5 years of experience is preferred or
  • Associate of Science degree in Engineering with 10+ years of experience is required
  • Experience in SQL and Oracle database structure will be beneficial with the management of several engineering applications. 
  • Familiarity with overhead and underground distribution design, National Electric Safety Code, and National Electric Code
  • Must have strong problem solving skills with a proficiency in verbal and written communications. 
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, programming, safety materials, and other work related material.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and applications customarily used in an office and engineering environment. 
  • Able to work nonstandard work hours or weekends as needed. 
  • Must live or relocate within 30 minutes of the Midway office.
  • Must have ability to acquire and maintain a valid driver’s license.
