JOB SUMMARY

 

The McKenney’s ACS Junior Application Engineer will be tasked with the development of control system engineering and standard application software selection for all assigned projects.  The system design will be in accordance with the project estimates, the account representative’s special instructions and in compliance with the project design documents (plans and specifications.)  The System design will consist of submittal and installation documents including overall control network architecture, detailed wiring termination sheets, parts lists, sequences of operation, and point-to-point control system checkout lists.  The Junior Application Engineer will be responsible for learning the following: controller and end device selection, proper sizing, capacity calculations, and field coordination during installation and final commissioning.  The Junior Application Engineer will maintain communication with:  The Senior Application Engineer, Charlotte ACS Leader, the account representative, the assigned control system project manager, Automation specialists and installation technicians. 

 

 

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Control Equipment selection and capacity calculations.
  • Initial equipment sizing (e.g. – Valve, damper actuators, panels, power supplies, controller counts, memory capacity, etc.)
  • Preparation of control systems submittals, as-built wiring diagrams and operating and maintenance manuals in strict accordance with the project schedule.
  • Visio, Revit work: copying, assembling, and delivery of completed submittal or O&M packages; and material logistics.
  • Review building design specifications, plans, VE modifications, and estimates are mandatory in the position.
  • Participation with the ACS leadership team in ongoing review and enhancement of the McKenney's ACS design and implementation standards.
  • Ability to select the controls platform best suited to meet the functional goals of the project (customer requirements) while maintaining alignment with the project budget.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS   

  • 1 year of experience working in an engineering, design capacity on communicating or networked electronic systems or 2 years BAS installation and checkout experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent technical training in a related field with 3 years of the required experience working directly with commercial facility digital control and facility management systems.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced competency in Visio or AutoCAD

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Demonstrated competency in Windows, Microsoft Office, Web-enabled applications.
  • Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
  • Ability to maintain painstaking attention to detail while completing multiple or repetitive tasks.
  • Able to demonstrate a serious commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals or deadlines.

  • Must have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software

 

 

WORKING CONDITIIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS

  • Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to construction, mechanical and electrical-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Moderate physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds and extensive standing and walking.  
  • Work requires local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations.
  • Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and scaffolds and to negotiate work areas under construction.
