Job Description:

Borrego is seeking a Project Engineer (Civil PE) to join our Midwest Regional team at our office in Chicago, IL or remotely in IL. We offer a hybrid work environment, allowing you to work remotely 2-3 days a week and from the office 2-3 days a week.

About the Role

The Project Engineer (Civil PE) will work with a team of engineers, project developers, and engineering consultants to review, design and permit prospective solar PV and energy storage projects. The successful candidate will be relied on to balance due diligence efforts with project risks for the continued development of projects for Borrego Solar. The candidate will functionally report into the Director of Civil Engineering. Primary duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Site review and zoning/bylaws review
  • Meet with the state agencies, towns and other stakeholders, as well as presenting to planning/zoning boards, state and federal agencies
  • Work with staff engineers as well as manage the survey, environmental and engineering sub-consultants
  • Assist in the continued development of standard details, notes, and specifications
  • Review design drawings prepared by in-house or external designers

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with Illinois Civil P.E. License
  • 5-10 years  experience in site development and permitting (municipal, state, federal) or equivalent 
  • Experience in cost estimation, reviewing engineering services contracts, managing subconsultants, and coordinating the following:
    • Wetlands including farmed wetlands
    • U&S Fish & Wildlife/Dept. Natural Resources review (Eco Cat) review
    • Illinois Historic Preservation Act (IHPA) cultural review
    • LESA evaluation (Land Evaluation and Site Assessment)
    • Drain tile assessment and regulations
    • County Soil Erosion and Conservation Districts
    • County Planning Commissions (zoning and planning)
    • County DPW (driveway cuts)
    • NPDES-SWPPP’s 
    • Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide permits (multiple ILL districts)
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and HYDROCAD (or equivalent design tools) proficiency preferred
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with project stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, engineers, regulatory officials, and consultants
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while being highly motivated, detailed, and organized
  • Candidates with 10+ years of experience can be considered for the Senior Project Engineer position
