THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT EGLIN, AFB. The primary purpose of this position is to perform on site research at the AFRL Munitions Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The duties associated with this position are to lead and manage image data analysis from material microstructures and conduct activities involving measurement of energetic materials' microstructural properties that influence the subsequent quantitative image analysis. Responsibilities include image processing and quantitative analysis, data analysis, instrument operation and maintenance, experimental design and implementation, and reporting of results. A successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as a member of a dynamic and challenging team.

Minimum Qualifications:

R2 Minimum Qualifications:
PhD degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgy), Chemistry, or a closely related field.
Minimum of 1 year of directly related experience is required.
Candidate must have prior experience with image/video data processing and image/video data analysis.
Candidate should be familiar with the theory, operation, and data analysis of general microstructural characterization techniques and equipment to include but not limited to: optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, quantitative energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, X-ray computed microtomography, and sample preparation techniques.
Candidate should be familiar with the current state of the art in microstructural characterization techniques.
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret level or higher clearance.
Candidate must be able to obtain a DoD certification in explosives.

Candidate should have experience with the theory, operation, and data analysis and maintenance of general microstructural characterization techniques and equipment to include but not limited to: optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, quantitative energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, X-ray computed microtomography, and sample preparation techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Experience in developing engineering controls for hazardous materials highly preferred.
Experience with DoD munitions accountability and disposal regulations, and standard energetic material characterization publications preferred.
Experience working in a DoD laboratory.
Candidate should have an understanding of the capabilities required given a material set/situation for proper microstructural characterization.
Experience with computing techniques to include Matlab, Python, and Labview.
Excellence in verbal and written reporting skills and experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
Experience working with socially and culturally diverse teams.
