The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking an experienced and motivated engineering professional to join our team in the downtown Seattle area in our Northwest Region. This position acts as Project Inspector responsible for assisting in oversight of Design Build activities. This position will also assist in the inspection of construction projects and assist in assuring compliance with contract plans and specifications including environmental permits under close supervision. Help prepare field reports and take and file project photos documenting construction work and issues. Assist with performing material sampling/testing related to inspection duties when requested. Supports the Field Operations Manager and QV Lead Engineer to ensure design and construction contract requirements are met.

 What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:

  • Under the supervision of the Lead QV Engineer and/or senior QV Inspectors, assists in performing QV inspection of construction activities, auditing compliance with contract plans, specifications, permits and commitments. Check that permanent contract materials are only being placed that are approved. Audit to check that materials are being sampled and tested according to contract requirements.
  • Assist the Lead QV Engineer with review of project progress and prepare field notes and other pay notes so that payment can be made in a timely manner for completed contract work.
  • Write IDRs. Prepare project record and photographically document work activities and contract issues. Assists in performing QV material sampling and testing when requested.
  • Assists in reviewing of design and construction submittals, permit applications, exhibits and work plans and provide comments.
 
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural engineering, or an Engineer-in-Training certification
  • Ability to work on uneven ground, manipulate and transfer items up to 35 pounds across uneven terrain, climb ladders and work in inclement weather, when performing field work
  • Ability to respectfully communicate, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans & provisions and other relevant mandatory standards
  • Ability to train and direct technicians
  • Valid WA state driver’s license
