STARTING SALARY RANGE:  $75,253.00 - $92,196.00 annually dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $75,253.00 - $109,139.00

JOB SUMMARY:

This position performs technical review of engineering design for development projects.  Responsibilities include participation in the Project Review Group multi-department development review process, evaluating development proposals to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances, providing technical advice to boards and commissions on subdivision and development engineering related items, and performing other duties of considerable difficulty involving regulatory engineering issues and functions. 
 

The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong work ethic and will need to effectively and clearly communicate to a full range of people.  We are looking to add a team member capable of managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities with thoroughness and accuracy and be able to problem-solve efficiently.

 

JOB DUTIES:
1.    Reviews subdivision and land development engineering plans to ensure compliance with Village standards, as well as all appropriate village codes and ordinances.
2.    Prepares written recommendations regarding development proposals including but not limited to; development plan reviews, planned unit developments, and other land development proposals.
3.    Reviews revised drawings from developers to assure compliance with Village standards.
4.    Participates in the Project Review Group multi-department development review process.
5.    Works closely with other departments to coordinate the review and/or design process for new projects and often suggests ways to improve site plans.
6.    Assists residents by answering questions and resolving complaints associated with land development permits, site construction, and drainage.
7.    Drafts changes to village codes to reflect current practices or make recommendations to other staff members for possible updates to village code.
8.    Represents the Village of Schaumburg in a professional manner with the development community.
9.    Coordinates engineering reviews by consultants who provide development review services for development proposals.
10.    Performs other duties as assigned.

Represents the Village in dealings with other agencies, special interest groups and the general public.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
2.    A minimum of two years of significant experience in regulatory engineering with a municipal government or with a private engineering firm.
3.    Registered Professional Engineer in Training (EIT) with the State of Illinois. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with the State of Illinois preferred.
4.    Possession of a valid driver’s license.
5.    Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.

Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and land surveying.  Ability to master appropriate codes and ordinances in a short period of time.  Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.   Ability to establish good working relationships with other employees, public and Village officials, contractors, private sector engineers, and the general public.  Strong project management skills, time management, the ability to exercise good judgment and work independently.  Ability to interpret engineering, architectural, landscape and site plans/drawings.  Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and specifications for public improvements. Working knowledge of engineering rules and regulations, policies and procedures and applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances.  Possess effective conflict resolution skills.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.    Conducting site visits to private properties and construction sites.
2.    Necessity to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
3.    Prolonged periods of concentration such as proof reading, figure work, drawing, reading, site plans, etc.
4.    Capable of operating instruments, tools, and equipment that are job related and/or as directed.
5.    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with continuous interruptions and function effectively under stress.
6.    Ability to drive a personal vehicle to and from inspection sites.
