Engineering Acquisition Manager

 

The GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for an engineering acquisitions manager.  As an Engineering Acquisitions Manager for the GBS Group, you will work both independently and with a team of programmers and engineers on complex projects related to Naval ship platforms. The position will develop, manage, and perform configuration inspections and reviews of system design and documentation.  You will utilize your knowledge of ships systems, to ensure proper configuration controls are in place, to ensure proper system documentation for existing and upgrade machinery and control systems.  You will work with a team, and independently, to develop engineering change packages (ECP’s).   You will be a vital person in the execution of machinery and control system hardware and software upgrades ensuring accuracy of these systems documentation.  You will use your professional leadership and interface skills in a team environment to accomplish these goals. The position will also contribute real value to our military, by ensuring system configurations and documentation is up to date for systems and equipment, in a variety of Naval ship classes and facilities.  You will interface with a variety of technical personnel, stake holders, and project sponsors.

Responsibilities are included, but not limited to:

  • Provide professional services by maintaining configuration management processes and procedures.
  • Identify, review, and create strategies supporting the accurate configuration of the new generation amphibious ship class, including all validation of the installed systems, equipment, and components, system arrangements, and integration of MCS and HM&E systems.
  • Define and track multiple versions and instances of contract deliverable documentation. Review and provide comments back to the quality assurance POC to be submitted to shipbuilder to be adjudicated, and review requirements to make sure it meets the contract 202 specifications.
  • Ensure version control processes, policies, and procedures are followed on platforms and systems within the program.
  • Apply expertise in NAVSEA and industry standards and best practices for managing shipboard configuration and requirements.
  • Interface with government technical project leads to ensure support provided meets or exceeds all work performance objectives and standards.  

 Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with US Navy ships and shipboard systems in configuration management, acquisition, operation, maintenance, and life cycle sustainment
  • Experience with the design, construction, and fleet introduction of naval ships, including design changes, ship alterations, and identification of how these alterations affect configuration, operations, training, and life cycle sustainment
  • Experience with evaluating and processing ship design Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and Proposed Change Work (PCW) submissions
  • Knowledge of the DoD acquisition process, including regulations, directives, and statutes, such as the Navy’s application of the DoD acquisition process
  • Experience with reviewing signal list using database
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
  • BA or BS degree preferred (Marine Engineer, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems)

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with US Navy platforms, machinery control systems, surface and air-launched weapon, MSC Program, Sensor, and Electronic Warfare systems
  • Experience with Data Item Description (DID), shipboard drawing review and reading ship specifications/requirements

Physical/ Mental Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/Maritime) facility or ship
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites
  • Must be able to work in and on overhead structures, as well as below machinery
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding
