What Your Job Will Be Like

Are you ready to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for our nation's security? If so, you could be the Mechanical Engineer we are seeking to join our team!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform minor designs in support of customer requests with Facilities Portfolio Manager (FacPM) approval and maintain as-builts for in-house designs.
  • Maintain a broad understanding of the building systems, safety systems structures and components, and design basis.
  • Lead all efforts for planned outages, coordination, and building occupant notifications.
  • Write high-rigor planned outage procedures and switching memos; review/approve all procedures and memos for assigned portfolio.
  • Collaborate with A/E partners on system capacities and design basis.
  • Participate in building systems performance monitoring, system analysis, and operate per the design basis within assigned portfolio.
  • Perform building walkthroughs to stay up-to-date with building system conditions (coordinate system/equipment inspections).
  • Provide technical expertise and analysis in support of predictive and preventative maintenance technologies.
  • Identify facility project needs through the Condition Assessment, Resource Conservation, or Operations processes and assist in integrating those needs across the site.
  • Support project requirements development, developing and analyzing design options and alternatives, A/E Q&A, engineered safety, and project design reviews focusing on specification and standard reviews at the building system level operations and maintainability of equipment.
  • Review and advise changes to Real Estate Operating Permit (REOP).
  • Adhere to FMS business process and identify improvements and standard methodologies.
  • Support Affinity Groups, Standards, Specifications and Design Manual develop, and improvement.
  • Review Facilities Control System (FCS) alarms and issues with Building Operator/Engineering Technologist for resolution.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 60% of the time. 

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline plus five (5) years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Two or more years experience designing and/or troubleshooting of mechanical building systems.
  • Licensed Engineer (P.E.).
  • Experience with the following:
  • Working with nuclear facilities, using computerized facilities management systems (Maximo, Tririga, etc).
  • NNSA, DOE or other federal government requirements.
  • Current mechanical codes and standards (IBC, ASHRAE), scoping detailed mechanical projects, and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
  • Mechanical design engineer.
  • Analytical and reasoning skills necessary to identify and resolve mechanical risk issues with the mission in mind and assist in making recommendations to management.
  • Coordination of mechanical outages.
  • Developing and implementing a preventive maintenance plan.
  • Leadership skills including the ability to articulate the vision to key partners.
  • Basic knowledge of technical building or site infrastructure design and construction.
  • Working knowledge and understanding in Facilities engineering, design, construction and contracting, best standards and practices.
  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion and implement multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
