Borrego is seeking a Sr. Development Engineer I to join our team in Lowell, MA.  We offer a hybrid work environment, allowing you to work remotely 2-3 days a week and from the office 2-3 days a week.

About the Role

This role is an opportunity to work with our Emerging Markets team as the technical lead for this core vertical market. This is an outstanding opportunity for a driven candidate to help optimize our systems around incentive programs and to develop standards within new core markets at Borrego. We are looking for someone with leadership skills that can provide different perspectives on issues and support the needs of a successful project. You will be supported by the internal engineering staff, including design drafters and other civil, structural, and electrical engineers.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Design projects according to Borrego Design Standards and understand/improve the functionality of company design tools
  • Manage 4-6 active commercial or utility-scale solar projects
  • Oversee a task force with the Policy, Finance, and Development teams, with assistance from our civil and interconnection teams, to track our progress in this new core market
  • Responsible for reporting lessons learned to the rest of the Dev Eng team (code requirements, optimal systems for that market, etc.)
  • Improve project viability through design decisions and value engineering
  • Lead a Continuous Improvement Initiative
  • Manage major Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Work in a mentorship role with less experienced team members

 

Desired Qualifications:

While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes.   • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 4-6 years of experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, or similar position, working with and leading engineering projects
  • Knowledge of local Electric and Building Codes
  • Advanced understanding of system design and engineering concepts
  • Ability to manage the design of multiple complex projects, coordinating the efforts of multiple stakeholders, including vendors, customers, utilities, permitting authorities and professional engineers
  • Proficient with MS Office, AutoCad, Smartsheet, Salesforce and PV Syst.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • NABCEP Certification a plus
  • Excitement about growing along with a fast-paced, dynamic company; comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to build, experiment, and iterate when the path forward is undefined
  • A passion for renewable energy, addressing the climate crisis, and accelerating the clean energy transformation
