Borrego’s engineering and interconnection teams are seeking a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer to join our growing team in Lowell, MA or Latham, NY. Our ideal candidate will have experience in power systems and an in-depth understanding of how distributed generation interacts with existing distribution and sub-transmission systems. You will have a lead role in Borrego’s Transmission Prospecting campaigns and will work closely with internal stakeholders from the interconnection, project development, and Finance teams to identify potential PV sites, help define prospecting strategy, and perform transmission analysis for Borrego Projects.

About the Role: 

Externally, you will work collaboratively with 3rd party consultants, utility and ISO engineers, and other industry professionals to advocate for Borrego’s Utility Scale Portfolio.  You will also evaluate utility study deliverables and provide guidance to the development team on project changes and opportunities to leverage available capacity. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as regional Planning Engineering lead for multiple ISO territories helping Developers navigate the Transmission network and uncover the most competitive and efficient locations to Interconnect projects
  • Evaluate utility impact studies with ability to challenge study methodology where appropriate
  • Assist project developers in the evaluation of potential Project sites to determine project feasibility and potential network upgrades and cost
  • Perform power system modeling including stability analysis and effective grounding studies
  • Well organized self-starter with a genuine drive for success and executing on both short- and longer-term strategic goals
  • Ability to lead advocacy and technical negotiations to facilitate advancement of Borrego's projects
  • Excitement about growing along with a fast-paced, dynamic company; comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to build, experiment, and iterate when the path forward is undefined
  • Onboard and manage third party consultants to assist in engineering analysis where needed
  • Exhibit knowledge and understanding of T&D protective relay schemes
  • Review interconnection drawings and application packages for compliance with relevant utility standards and regulatory obligations
  • Ability to actively participate in different state and industry level technical policy working groups with the intent to advocate for policies and standards that facilitate Borrego's goals and mission

  • 5+ years of Power Engineering Experience with desired specialty in Transmission Planning
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant study
  • Strong understanding of Transmission System impacts associated with the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER), as well as knowledge of engineering solutions to mitigate those issues.
  • Ability to successfully lead strategic initiatives in a fast paced and challenging team-based multi-stakeholder environment
  • Experience with power systems modeling software such as PSSe, PSCAD, PSLF,  SKM/ETAP, Aspen, etc is desired
  • PE preferred
