The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Mecklenburg county Location & Surveys team providing engineering analysis, mapping, and other data for the design of transportation facilities and property acquisition for transportation facilities construction.
In this role you will
- Work on the field survey crew operating field survey equipment performing more complex technical highway route location project surveys in the field and office.
- Conduct complex CADD and computer operations in surveying and creating plan sheets and survey data for Transportation Improvement (TIP) projects, including hydraulic surveys, complex horizontal alignments, setting of photogrammetric controls, property condemnations, and Global Positioning System (GPS) field work.
- Supervise survey teams in moderately-complex field operations.
What You Bring
- Computer skills using CADD and computers in the design of highways (topographic features, hydrographic information, utility locations, property boundaries, elevations etc.), digital terrain model (DTM) files, and the preparation of preliminary or final versions of property condemnation maps.
- Experience planning, directing, overseeing, and leading lower-level technicians in survey field and office work.
- Experience working with survey equipment, i.e., total stations and GNSS receivers.
- Experience developing maps/plans using CADD software.
- Knowledge of standards, principles, and practices of NC surveying.
- Ability to make independent judgments in the application of standard civil engineering practices and procedures.
Education & Experience
- Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Technology, or a related discipline, and
- 2+ years of relevant experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
