The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a talented and innovative Engineer to join our SR 520 & Alaska Way Viaduct (AWV) engineering team in Seattle, WA. As the Project Inspector, you will work onsite at various construction projects. Your duties will include ensuring compliance with construction plans and specifications, preparing detailed reports, and monitoring projects for environmental compliance.
  
 
 What to Expect
 
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Project Inspector will:

  • Inspect and direct contract work performed in the field
  • Ensure compliance with contract specifications, plans, permits, and contract timeline 
  • Provide clarification of contract requirements to contractor 
  • Assist in researching and preparation for change orders 
  • Coordinate materials testing with Materials Engineers 
  • Perform material sampling when Material Testers are not available
  • Produce construction documents 
  • Assemble monthly pay estimates 
  • Prepare contract as-built drawings based on field records of work complete 
 
 Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3 or equivalent experience in Construction Engineering. 
  • Strong communications skills both verbally and written. 
  • The ability to exercise sound engineering judgement and interpret and analyze construction contract plans, specification, permits, and other documentation. 
  • Strong understanding of construction practices and engineering principles. 
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • The ability to operate a state-owned motor vehicle safely and hold a valid driver’s license. 
  • The ability to work any shift, days or nights as needed to meet the required job function. 
 
  It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: 
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting process and be able to evaluate construction project compliance
  • The ability to read and interpret Environmental permits and conditions
  • Technical knowledge of Best Management Practices (BMPs) 
  • The ability to use pH and Turbidity Monitoring Equipment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related Field
  • Proficient in using the following computer applications: Primavera Contract Management, Unifier, and SharePoint
 
Important Notes 
  • This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
  • The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day with overtime depending on work load. 
  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. An additional general wage increase of 3.25% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2022.
