We are recruiting for a Traffic Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation Senior) to come join our Northwest Region team. This full time permanent position can be headquartered in Eau Claire, WI or Superior, WI.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for complex and technical traffic engineering work relating to the following activities:  traffic engineering studies, reviews, evaluations, and plan development relating to traffic signals, lighting, marking, signing, capacity analysis, crash analysis, traffic signal system management, freight system network development and safety/operational complaints or requests.

This position applies general engineering knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices to various traffic engineering issues. The work requires a general traffic engineering interpretation in evaluating the appropriate solutions to issues and problems including the use of new technologies.

Salary Information

The Civil Engineer Transportation Senior level position is in pay schedule 14-13. Starting pay is between $65,000 and $81,120 depending upon qualifications plus excellent benefits. Pay for internal candidates is determined per the compensation plan. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

This position requires the ability to travel independently throughout the region and the State for training, meetings, inspections, etc.

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas.  Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process. For positions that do allow remote work flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.

All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment. 

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have - 

  • Graduated from an ABET accredited college or university with a 4-year degree (or Master's or PH.D.) in civil engineering or a related engineering field, OR, possess a PE (Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin), OR, possess an EIT (Engineer-In-Training) license.
  • At least 4 years of professional engineering experience in design, construction or maintenance of transportation project

Well Qualified candidates will also have - 

  • Experience related to traffic engineering.
