Job Description:

The position will be focused on reverse engineer/design/analysis of aerospace components to be manufactured using metal/polymer powder bed laser sintering and polymer fused deposition modelling additive manufacturing processes. Focus will be on determining the fit, form and function of existing aerospace components and translating this knowledge into the technical data required to produce the equivalent or superior performing part using an additive manufacturing processes. An additive manufacturing product development process is used to guide the design engineer, but it is essential that the engineer be well versed in the fundamentals of mechanical design as well as possess the ability to assess requirements and choose the most economical combination of part geometry and material properties to take full advantage of the additive manufacturing process. This will include material / design/ process risk assessments and selection, providing test plan execution, test data interpretation, and validation of part performance vs. end-use requirements. The position will also require the ability to resolve manufacturing and design-related performance issues.



Minimum Qualifications

R1 minimum requirements
1. BS Mechanical or Aerospace in Engineering
2. 1+ years of engineering/technical product design and development experience including design ownership from concept development to qualification test and full-scale production
3. 1+ years of practical experience with Computer Aided Design software
4. 1+ years of practical experience in 2D drawing generation and the use of GD&T principles
5. 1+ years of experience in qualification of components and transition of technology to a validated manufacturing process
6. Familiarity with various manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, CNC machining, injection molding, additive manufacturing, etc.
7. Familiarity with additive manufacturing design and processes
8. Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to perform extensive research, catalogue findings during development activities, and write reports for both internal and external use
9. Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills with coworkers and clients at all levels
10. Demonstrated self-motivation with ability to work with minimal supervision
11. Demonstrated successful collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
12. Due to the nature of this position, US citizenship is required
13. Proficient with MS Office Suite software

R2 minimum requirements

An R2 must meet all R1 minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below.
Bachelor degree and 3 years directly related experience


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

1. Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing, including creating slicing file and printer operation
2. Practical experience with reverse engineering or combination of design change/material substitution/process change to enhance performance, reduce cost or increase manufacturing efficiency
3. Practical experience with heat treatment techniques and their effects on tailoring material properties to suit part performance requirements
4. Practical experience in failure analysis, root cause determination and corrective action implementation
5. Practical experience generating specifications/procedures for training purposes
6. Practical experience in materials and materials properties, including metals and / or metal powders
7. Working knowledge of US Air Force policies and procedures
8. Experience with Design of Experiments
9. Proficient in Dassault Systems SolidWorks CAD software
10. Proficient with finite element analysis
11. Proficient with reverse engineering tools
