The Nondestructive Engineering Group that is part of the Structural Materials (SM) Division in the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking a highly motivated and talented programmer who will be responsible for development and implementation of advanced software tools such as data processing methods, optimization, and machine learning. This position provides support for development of advanced methods for analysis of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) sensor data, including but not limited to, optical, ultrasonic, x-ray, eddy current and thermal images. Data may be mapped into 2 or 3D amplitude representations or may be presented as numerical values, time dependent, or spatially correlated. The researcher would develop algorithms used to extract information from complex data sets, identify relationships between data sets and look for trends in data. Experience with data display and representations of complex data sets is valuable. Proficiency with Matlab and Python are required and C++ or C# are preferred.


Minimum Qualifications

R1 Minimum Qualifications
- BS degree in science or engineering from an accredited university
- Experience in data processing methods, optimization, machine learning.
- Proficiency with Python, Matlab and software development using scripting languages.
- Experience developing algorithms used to extract information from complex data sets.
- Experience with scripting for a variety of data types.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a National Agency Check.

R2 Minimum Qualifications
An R2 must meet all R1 minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below.
- Minimum of three years of directly related experience.
- Experience with data-driven mathematical models, image analysis, physics based deep learning methods, nonlinear optimization methods and application of neural networks for modeling sparse data sets.
 


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

- MS degree in science or engineering from an accredited university
- One or more years of experience with database development, NDE data acquisition systems and NDE data processing. Image/signal processing experience. Technical publications.


Special Instructions to Applicants
 

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
