Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? The Structural Materials (SM) Division in the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking highly motivated and highly talented engineers or scientists to perform multidisciplinary research and development (R&D) and engineering in the area of manufacturing of polymeric and non-polymeric composites and tooling, and the synthesis and characterization of novel polymer, organic, and inorganic materials. This is a full time benefit eligible position that offers health, dental and vision insurance, retirement, disability, tuition assistance, vacation/sick accrual and holiday pay.

The Structural Materials (SM) Division in the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking highly motivated and highly talented engineers or scientists to perform multidisciplinary research and development (R&D) and engineering in the area of manufacturing of polymeric and non-polymeric composites and tooling, and the synthesis and characterization of novel polymer, organic, and inorganic materials. The work will involve discovering and integrating new and/or conventional manufacturing technologies and materials to solve problems in the areas of new structures, multifunctional structures, composites, tooling, additive manufacturing, and agile low cost manufacturing. The R&D will involve all size scales, from nano to macro, in both material constituents and finished structures. The R&D will also encompass all operational environments from temperate to harsh/extreme, and land and sea to air and space. This specific position requires a senior expert level of experience and skill in both management and hands-on activity. Due to security clearance requirements of this position, the applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.

Minimum Qualifications

R3 Minimum Qualifications:
• A BS degree in science or engineering from an accredited university.
• A minimum of eight years of directly related experience with advanced composites materials.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Documented experience with “hands-on” moderately physical work in a laboratory or shop environment.
• Experience in industrial fabrication processing/synthesis of polymer matrix, carbon/carbon, and ceramic matrix composites.
• Experience in all aspects of technical innovation, leadership, and management.
• Documented experience working well with others, and leading and motivating fellow team members.
• Documented experience thinking critically and driving projects to completion based solely on your own leadership authority and responsibility.
• Documented effective experience in properly documenting technical data generated by work projects as evidenced in authorship of multiple technical papers/reports either as a primary author (first listed author) or primary advisor (last listed author).
• Experience, training, and ability to apply process improvement to technical and business processes.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products and modern computing in general.
• US Citizen.

R4 Minimum Qualifications:
An R4 must meet all R3 minimum qualifications in addition to a minimum of twelve years of directly related experience with advanced composites materials.
 


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• A MS or PhD degree in science or engineering from an accredited university.
• Documented successful experience in industrial fabrication processing/synthesis of polymer matrix, carbon/carbon, and/or ceramic matrix composites.
• Documented successful experience in all aspects of technical innovation, leadership, and project/staff management.
• Documented successful experience in all aspects of research contract and business administration to include business development and marketing, proposals, personnel staffing, project execution, financial and technical requirement management, material acquisition, equipment acquisition, reporting and excellent technical writing, and generation and documentation of intellectual property.
• Documented successful experience in performing and applying, process improvement to technical and business processes.
• Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
