The Challenge
Ready to Lead?  We are looking for an experienced engineer to serve as the staff engineer, senior advisor, and special assistant to our Integrated Mobility Division Director.
 
In this role you will:
  • Assist our Integrated Mobility Director with prioritizing and completing Division activities – particularly those that are high-profile, time-sensitive, or politically driven – and gathering necessary information to make informed decisions.
  • Respond to urgent requests from NCDOT leadership, the NC General Assembly, and our community partners.
  • Provide technical assistance to Division staff and leadership.
  • Ensure our Division activities are prioritized properly and carried out in a way that aligns with the Director’s goals
  • Monitor Division performance in various subject matters.
  • Make informed recommendations to the Director to improve our efficiency and effectiveness of Division activities.
  • Serve in place of the Director, at times, in meetings, conferences, or on research panels.
 
What You Bring
  • Strong knowledge of multimodal, bicycle, pedestrian and transit planning, grant administration, and funding principles, techniques, procedures, and their interrelationships.
  • In-depth knowledge of Federal/State laws, guidelines, and funding programs related to multimodal, bicycle, pedestrian, and public transportation infrastructure and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate policies and programs and identify areas for modernization.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, oversee, complete, and effectively communicate results of high-profile and time-sensitive activities.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with state, federal, and local officials.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Strong attention to details and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle special projects from start to finish.
  • Leadership and supervision skills to manage tasks required by the role and assigned by the Director.
  • Ability to represent NCDOT & the Division's interests in the absence of the Director.
 
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, and
  • 4+ years of relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Note
  • We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
