As the Senior Development Engineer, you will conduct research, develop processing techniques, and other technologies within the Materion AMG R&D Team with a focus on the development of new products, services and markets. You will also research and propose new production equipment, procedures and methods to automate, improve and/or scale-up existing processes.

You Will Have the Opportunity to:

  • Perform metal or chemical manufacturing processes employing techniques appropriate to the task to maintain/improve Materion's competitive market position.
  • Scale and validate new product processes in conjunction with the T&I Development team, Process Engineering and Operations using the Stage Gate Process.
  • Identify and develop novel approaches to optimize metal manufacturing processes.
  • For new development projects, conduct experiments, perform analytical characterization activities, gather data, analyze data, establish material property relationships, draw conclusions, and document concise technical reports with clear recommendations.
  • Apply solid scientific understanding to the innovation and development of novel materials and processes.

  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • MUST HAVE CASTING EXPERIENCE
  • Master's or higher in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or other STEM field. M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Metallurgy or Materials Science preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years technical experience with engineering and scale up of material manufacturing processes, analytical techniques, and materials characterization.
  • Experience in the development of casting processes for specialty alloys, specifically using vacuum casting, of low volume high mix products. Experience with die casting, investment casting, low pressure casting, centrifugal casting, squeeze die casting or continual casting preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully participate on technical and/or design project teams
  • Lean Six Sigma Green and/or Black Belt certification is preferred
  • Ability to travel, anticipated 25%

The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from approval for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction. The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
