The Automation Team at Myriad Women's Health is where the clinical laboratory, software engineering, assay development, and advanced robotics all come together to make something truly unique. They are tasked with designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced clinical diagnostics laboratory platform in the world.

As a Supervisor for the Service Engineering Team at Myriad Genetics in South San Francisco, you will be responsible for leading a team of junior engineers/technicians in keeping the platform in peak condition as it continues to expand in capabilities and capacity to meet the demands of the genomics revolution.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintenance and calibration tasks to keep our robotics and instrumentation running at peak performance;
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues on multiple liquid handling platforms (Tecan/Bravo/Beckman) and in our integrated robotic work cells;
  • Supervise a team of level I-IV engineers and calibration technicians to achieve uptime targets for our robotic platforms and lab instrumentation, ensure that maintenance tasks are completed, and ensure the CLIA lab receives the highest level of around-the-clock professional service and support;
  • Serve as an escalation point for your team on complex and critical issues and work with vendors to efficiently communicate complex technical problems and ensure they fulfill their support responsibilities;
  • Oversee the training and performance of your team on instrument and system repair techniques and on quality systems and documentation practices;
  • Carry out performance reviews and oversee career development initiatives for your team;
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in your team by driving root cause investigations and prioritizing impactful internal process improvements;
  • Create, maintain, and review various SOP documentation for support and training;
  • Act as a lead contributor to cross-functional process improvement projects involving lab operations and the automation hardware and software development groups to increase instrument uptime and improve service efficiency;
  • Represent the group in cross-functional quality meetings and act as a technical resource for other groups investigating potential issues related to instrument performance.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Engineering/Science with 4-6 years independent experience servicing and repairing complex laboratory instrumentation or robotic hardware, (2-4 years experience with MS);
  • Track record of maintaining, troubleshooting, and completing root cause analysis for complex laboratory instrumentation, especially liquid handlers (Tecan/Beckman/Bravo preferred), in a regulated setting;
  • Familiar with computer networking (Unix, OSX, Windows), and can quickly become an advanced user and manipulator of in-house software (Python/Django);
  • Experience with laboratory quality systems and compliance with regulatory (FDA, ISO, CAP/CLIA) requirements for maintenance documentation;
  • Demonstrated understanding of common practices and workflows in a modern clinical genomics or related type of laboratory;
  • Independently driven, able to prioritize multiple tasks, organized, and a critical thinker;
  • Strong leadership potential, as shown by contributions to team projects focused on development/serviceability/troubleshooting of complex lab instrumentation, maintenance and troubleshooting process improvement, safety, or organizational improvement;
  • Previous supervisory/leadership experience, especially if in a regulated environment (CLIA or higher), a plus.
