The Opportunity

The Northwest Region (NWR) is eager to hire multiple engineering professionals to serve as our Project Inspector in Everett. The primary undertaking of the Project Inspector is to inspect and document compliance with contract plans and specifications. As a Project Inspector, this position must identify problems and challenges and provide input on solutions. Project Inspectors are key to ensuring that construction contracts are constructed in accordance with contract documents. The Project Inspector will play a vital role in WSDOT's successful delivery of WSDOT projects, maintaining public confidence and helping the public travel safely.
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Project Inspector will:

  • Travel throughout the region to inspect and direct contract work on jobsites and investigate problems as they arise.
  • Assure compliance with applicable plans and permits.
  • Provide clarification of the contract requirements to the contractor and subcontractors and find answers to questions.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate documentation of audits, reports, records, etc.
  • Ensure construction projects are safe and meet all contract requirements and environmental commitments.
  • Plan, schedule and monitor activities related to project environmental compliance.
  • Work closely with contractors to ensure compliance and resolve contract issues as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, OR
  • Associates degree and one (1) year of experience as a Transportation Technician 3, Transportation Engineer 1, or equivalent, OR
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Technician 3, Transportation Engineer 1, or equivalent

 

In addition to:

  • Current unrestricted driver’s license
  • Certification for Qualified General Inspection or the ability to achieve in 6 months. 
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written
  • Ability to work all shifts, including nights for extended periods of time. 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Qualified WA QTC HMA Tester
