Position Summary:

In this role as a Product Certification Test Engineer, you will perform certification testing for a variety of exciting Conair products. You will become the resident expert in determining whether new products meet Conair’s strict standards for safety and excellence.  These products will be tested in terms of electronics, functionality, reliability, and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Become an accredited test engineer to certain UL and CSA standards, as required per our Intertek Satellite Lab Program.
  • Must acquire knowledge of ISO 17025. This will be achieved by demonstrating the test method of each UL and CSA standard and explaining their requirements at the annual Intertek Lab Audit.
  • Be able to read test equipment manuals in order to learn the equipment functionality.
  • Test small home appliance samples daily to UL and CSA standards and write test reports which will be submitted to Intertek for certification.
  • Will use calibrated mechanical, electrical and software programs to test and record data for the test report. Will maintain test apparatus.
  • Order all new lab supplies.
  • Be able to analyze test samples of product and perform what tests are necessary per the product change (new product or alternate component).
  • Stay up to date with all required UL and CSA standards that are necessary for the product samples that are being tested.
  • Perform laboratory housekeeping daily.
  • Monitor lab environment before and during test. If environmental limits are out of range, the test engineer will stop the test.
  • Support Engineering and Marketing departments with testing and reporting on existing, new and competitive products.
  • Manage multiple assignments and customers’ expectations.
  • Test, evaluate and debug new and existing products.
  • Conduct Competitive Evaluations.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis in support of field failures and returns.
  • Develop /Conduct / Document tests as required, working with Product Engineer.
  • Generate test report templates and test procedures.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A fluency in Microsoft Word, and Excel is mandatory, and a strong background in Electrical Engineering is a strong plus for this job.
  • You must be a self-starter: you must be able to design, write and implement test cases approved by UL and ETL. You must be able to interface with co-workers in Marketing and Engineering.  You must be detailed-orientated.  You must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must be a self-starter with little supervision necessary.
  • Experienced with testing and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical devices (products). Preferred testing to UL and CSA standards experiences a plus.
  • Experienced working in a product testing environment.
  • Experienced with test procedures, test reports and documentation.
  • Hands-on experienced with wiring and soldering electronic components and reading schematics. Preferred experience with electrical test equipment for small, home appliances.
  • Knowledgeable of standard test equipment and gauging.
  • Preferred experience with approval agencies and their test methodologies. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Skilled in use of a Windows-based PC, in order to run software programs for testing and gathering data as well as run lab designed test fixtures.
  • Detailed in testing and data gathering to accurately prepare test report.
  • Must be able to write test reports in an electronic format using Windows Office.

Environmental Factors:

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Must be Covid-19 vaccinated.
  • We currently operate on a hybrid schedule; candidate must be willing to come into the Stamford office 50% of time.
