Job Purpose:
The Traffic/Transportation Engineer provides oversight of the City’s traffic engineering duties and responsibilities on behalf of the Public Works Department which provides a safe, efficient, and properly maintained transportation infrastructure for the citizens and businesses in the City, in accordance with Federal, State and City standards.

Your Impact at Lowe Engineers:
  • Assist with identifying sidewalk and traffic improvement projects
  • Assist with prioritizing sidewalk and traffic projects based on projected annual budgets
  • Make selection of consultants on sidewalk and traffic projects as directed
  • Prepare and review project delivery schedules
  • Manage project consultants throughout the project
  • Public involvement, including supporting staff at meetings, and responding to comments/inquiries (including CitySourced)
  • Assist with preparation of project presentations to City Council, Neighborhood Organizations and other stakeholders
  • Attend Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeal, and/or City Council Meetings as needed
  • Coordinate with other departments within city and other municipalities
  • Provide technical support for other Public Works initiatives as needed
  • Supervise and inspect minor construction and maintenance work on roadways, sidewalks, or other public works projects
  • Prepare designs for simple public works and traffic engineering projects
  • Prepare exhibits and descriptions for easement and right-of-way agreements and maintain records thereof
  • Determine scope and review traffic studies prepared by outside entities for site development/site impacts
  • Review zoning and variance applications for traffic and transportation impacts as well as right of way impacts
  • Review Land Disturbance Plans and/or Building Plans for traffic and transportation impacts as well as right-of-way impacts
  • Receive and respond to traffic and transportation concerns and issues and determines and recommends appropriate resolutions to maintain positive community/citizen relations for the Department and City.
  • Assist with the formulation of policies and procedures for the department; review, amend, and update department policies, procedures, rules, regulations and standards.
  • Assist with or coordinate with outside consultants on roadway design and plan preparation
  • Cost estimates, report writing, shop drawing review, quality assurance review, client coordination and permitting.
  • Develop and review signal timing-timing parameters for new installations; analyzes traffic count data; evaluate existing signal timings
  • Perform traffic calming studies; recommend traffic calming solutions to management; ensure traffic calming devices are in compliance with applicable traffic control device regulations, standards, and specifications; present traffic calming presentations as necessary
  • Perform crash data analysis and develop crash diagrams; develop and maintain top accident location list, recommends solutions, and monitors results
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of technical drawings, schematics and installation plans for traffic control devices
What You Bring to Lowe Engineers:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • P.E. License in Georgia or ability to obtain licensure within a year
  • Experience with or working knowledge of Georgia Department of Transportation Policies and Procedures
  • L.A.P. Certification a plus
  • GSWCC Level 1B or Level II Certifications a plus
