Job Description:

Planate Management Group is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, USA with a technical support center in the Philippines that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies.

The Architect will provide technical input and oversight of the design and construction of a new, complex, multi-level facility for the Federal Government.  The Architect will provide design oversight, constructability review, submittal review, input and review of the schedule and budget, quality control works, and inspection of completed work. The Architect supports the Owner’s Project Manager in ensuring compliance with local codes, specifications, and standards.

This will be located in Appomattox, VA.

This position is contingent on the award of the contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical review and oversight of the design-build process for a new, large-scale facility for the U.S. Government
  • Provide an architectural review of the design to support the achievement of all client objectives including local codes, aesthetics, and geotechnical conditions
  • Support the design approval process, recommends design changes to improve design value and constructability
  • Assist the client with review and approval of contractor’s submittals
  • Ensure that designs are within federal and local codes concerning health, safety, and environment of real property facilities
  • Support quality assurance and quality control of contractor works
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and disposition of government documentation requirements
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualification to be successful in the role:

  • Degree in Architecture from an accredited Government recognized college or university
  • A licensed Architect from the Architectural Institute of America (AIA) is preferred 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, or similar drawing software
  • Minimum of five years in planning and development of new concepts for long-range recapitalization programs in the field of civil, structural, electrical, fire protection, mechanical and architectural designs
  • Proficient in both written and verbal English in order to provide reports and conduct presentations to Government personnel
  • Flexible to work on shifting schedule to provide office coverage of construction work at the site
  • Must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits)
