The Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking a self-motivated Transportation Engineer 2 to serve as an Environmental Compliance Inspector, to support our various projects. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting and ensuring that all environmental permits are met, and environmental compliance is satisfied for design-build construction projects. This position is also responsible for verification inspection of design-builder's activities in the field and compliance documentation activities related to the contract, permits, and environmental and legal requirements. This position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to work on a very large-scale design-build project. Our top candidate will be comfortable working in the field performing a variety of duties in accordance with WSDOT standards.
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Environmental Compliance Inspector will:

  • Perform on-site inspections.
  • Ensure that project activities are consistent with permit conditions, the contract, and environmental and legal regulations.
  • Work with relative independence, recommend mitigation measures and determine acceptable BMP installations and maintenance.
  • Monitor and document the implementation of permit requirements.
  • Coordinate, review and provide comments on design documents.
  • Assist in training project inspectors.

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

 

In addition to:

  • WSDOT General Inspector certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Possess current Construction site Erosion and Sediment Control Lead certificate (CESCL) or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment.
  • Valid Driver’s License 


 It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: 

  • Knowledge of environmental permitting process and be able to evaluate construction project compliance. 
  • The ability to read and interpret Environmental permits and conditions. 
  • Technical knowledge of Best Management Practices (BMPs).
  • The ability to use pH and Turbidity Monitoring Equipment. 
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines.
