Description of Position:

We are looking for a creative, engineering and process-minded individual with recent experience in product and/or process development within the biotech space to join our recent Series B-funded high growth startup as a Sr. Hardware Engineer. This individual will have a key role in supporting our cell therapy manufacturing technology development for an industry-leading manufacturing system for personalized/autologous cell therapies. You will have ownership of specific subsystem designs through beta prototype creation. An ideal candidate will have direct experience developing incubator/bioreactor instrumentation. In this role, you will engage in all facets of product development including concepting, documentation, design, prototyping and transfer to manufacturing. The candidate must have the drive to solve complex technical problems, work in a fast-paced environment, across multiple stakeholders and subject matter experts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a diverse group of engineers, biologists, software designers, end-users and external suppliers
  • Participate in the translation of user and functional requirements to design specification, concepts and direction
  • Execute project scope including systems integration and design and development of a number of key subsystems, including sensor technologies, liquid handling systems, and cell washing
  • SolidWorks based design and development of instrumentation and consumables for cell therapy manufacturing
  • Generate and review documentation required for manufacturing technical transfers
  • Support of activities pertaining to market-readiness of product, including qualification activities

 

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:

  • Masters or Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field with emphasis on CAD design and prototyping
  • 2-5 years of experience in a company that develops bioprocessing/cell manufacturing equipment **Candidates with more experience and/or domain expertise may be considered for Manager positions
  • Experience working with outside vendors to quickly develop prototypes and production instruments
  • Candidates with direct experience in immune cell therapy processing workflows will be given priority
  • Highly motivated self-starter who can prioritize and take ownership of tasks
  • Excited to be “hands-on” in solving product problems
  • Must be comfortable in a rapidly growing and evolving start-up environment
